The Video Game Tavern: Expert Game Reviews in 2024
Welcome to the Video Game Tavern, a humble place where gamers and lovers of lore gather to share their common interests.
The Video Game Tavern’s primary purpose is to review any and all games that interest its team of writers. Specifically, we have a special place in our hearts for cozy games of all kinds.
Nothing beats the sense of peace you feel in immersing yourself in a world with no expectations placed on you aside from the ones you yourself create. Some days, you want to swing your melee weapon round in a series of complex moves to finish off monsters. Some days, you just want to watch your corn grow in your pixel art farm or decorate your bedroom with fall decor.

How the Games are Rated and Reviewed
A player’s experience with a game is very subjective. What one person might love, the next person hates.
That’s why at the Video Game Tavern we try to be as transparent as possible with the way we rate games. Because if you don’t like the rating system, then you shouldn’t bother or waste time with the review.
Maybe just look at the pretty pictures instead.
The games you will find reviewed on the Video Game Tavern all go through the same process.
Namely:
- We keep tabs on new cozy and wholesome games coming out (TikTok, newsletters, Instagram, you get the gist)
- We download them on the platform they’re available on, although we prefer Nintendo Switch
- We play them for long enough that we’re satisfied we have a very good understanding of the game narrative and mechanics
- We score them
- We write a review about them if we like them enough
Our score is based on five main criteria:
- Game design - what are the game graphics like? How much does the art style of the game fit in with the story and the mechanics?
- Game narrative - how engaging is the storyline? How well are the characters written?
- Game mechanics - how intuitive is the game to play? Does it remain fun and interesting even after hours of gameplay?
- ‘Cozy’ meter - how relaxing is the game? How much would we want to play it on a rainy autumn day?
- Platform availability - is the game only available on PC or mobile? Or more devices?
